Microchip Expands LIN 2.1/ SAE J2602-2 Portfolio With New Transceiver, System Basis Chip and System-in-Package Devices
Microchip Technology Inc today announced the expansion of its LIN portfolio with the LIN 2.1 and SAE J2602-2 compliant and low-power MCP2003A transceiver, MCP2021A, MCP2022A, MCP2025 and MCP2050 LIN System Basis Chips (SBCs), and PIC16F1829LIN System in Package (SiP). These devices include high integration options, such as a voltage regulator, windowed watchdog timer, battery monitor output and a MCU. Additionally, they feature high robustness, including high Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) levels of more than 15 kV on the LIN bus and battery-voltage pins, meeting or exceeding automotive manufacturer requirements such as Version 1.3 of the "OEM Hardware Requirements for LIN, CAN and FlexRay Interfaces in Automotive Applications." The voltage regulator that is integrated on some of the devices has also been specifically designed to operate in the automotive environment, and can withstand reverse battery conditions, +43V load dump transients and double-battery jump starts. Linear Technology Corporation announces the LTC3300-1, a high efficiency bidirectional multicell battery balancer for equalizing cell state of charge (SoC) in a series-connected battery stack. 28µA IQ Triple Output, Buck/Buck/Boost Synchronous DC/DC Controller Maintains Regulation in Automotive Start/Stop Systems
Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC3859AL, a triple output (buck, buck, boost), low quiescent current synchronous DC/DC controller that maintains all output voltages in regulation during automotive cold crank conditions. A 12V automotive battery can droop to less than 4 volts during engine restart or cold crank, causing reset of infotainment systems and other electronics that operate from 5 volts and higher. The high efficiency synchronous boost converter feeds the two step-down converters, avoiding output voltage dropout when the car battery droops, a useful feature in automotive start/stop systems that shut off the engine at idle to save fuel. Alternatively, the buck controllers can be powered from the input for a general purpose triple output controller.

TDK Corporation has expanded its CKG series of MEGACAP Type MLCCs to include miniature 1608 to 3216 (EIA 0603 to 1206) packages. Until now these MLCCs were available only in 3225 to 5750 packages (EIA 1210 to 2220). With dimensions of only 1.9 x 1.3 x 1.5 mm³ the new 1608 components are the world's smallest automotive-grade MLCCs in the mega cap class.

Littelfuse, Inc has introduced the TPSMA6L Series of Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Diodes. This new series can provide secondary transient voltage protection from transients induced by load dump and other transient voltage events for automotive electronic control units, sensors, entertainment systems, and other applications that require high reliability. This SMA device's low profile DO-221AC package is less than 1.1 mm high, but it offers the same peak pulse power dissipation (PPPM) rating (600W) as standard SMB devices. Carbon Nanotubes Find Niche Markets In Supercapacitors For Aviation
Supercapacitors have drawn much attention in recent years due to their high power density, reversibility, and long cycle life. They are being used in automotive applications as stop-start idle elimination system in cars. This can reduce up to 15% of fuel costs in urban driving and reduce related CO2 emissions. For example, Lamborghini just announced that they will use Maxwell Technologies supercapacitors for this purpose in all Lamborghini Aventador cars. Stop-start idle elimination systems are being adopted mainly in Europe as legislation now requires that all cars will need to comply with the a fleet-average emissions target for passenger cars of 130 g CO2/km by 2015 and 95 g CO2/km by 2020.
Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitors: High Reliability MLCCs For Automotive Applications In A 0603 (EIA 0201) Package
TDK Corporation presents the new CGA1 series of 0603 (EIA 0201) MLCCs for use in automotive electronics applications. With dimensions of only 0.6 x 0.3 x 0.3 mm³, the new components offer rated voltages from 6.3 V to 50 V, thus including the world's first 0603 X7R MLCC with a rated voltage of 50 V.
